Dec 26, 2019 Canada’s Wonderland Winterfest Trip Report – Hop on the Polar Express!

Trip Notes

I arrived at the park at 3pm.

I picked up a map on my way in… I looked at it later on in the evening and realized it was the original outdated map. I guess it might have been more wasteful to dispose/recycle the old ones rather than continue to give them out. I guess it’s not that big of a deal when there are still changes being made in the park anyway.

I went to get a meal at Backlot Cafe and saw that St. Nick’s Pics is now closed for the season which makes sense since Christmas has passed. There were parents who had shown up and looked confused by it. I’m not sure what to make of this myself since Santa and Christmas themes are still well alive in the park (which is fine by me). If anything, I think after Christmas they could have had a Santa photo op with him in front of a decorative background.

After eating, I headed over to Alpen to catch a ride on Thunder Run, which is called the Polar Express by the ride op. The ride itself is untouched, which is completely fine because it’s Thunder Run, but I’m hoping that it will get a Polar Express sign this year or at least for next year. And I’m also hoping that this is a hint that other rides will get special names for Winterfest next year.

I caught the first showing of Tinker’s Toy Factory. This show is the same, which is not surprising, but I think if the show can still include Santa and pretend Christmas still hasn’t happened yet, I don’t think it’s out of the question for Santa to still be at St. Nick’s Pics even if he’s not actually having conversations with the children.

I still love this show so much!

Watching the Tree Lighting Ceremony is a must for every one of my visits. It’s a show that pumps so much energy and life into International Street that makes me happy.

I bought new skates and couldn’t think of a better place to take them for their first run than Snowflake Lake.

Even though this was my shortest visit to Winterfest, I was still able to do a bunch of things. I had a meal, saw my favourite shows, went skating, and rode Thunder Run. I have at least one more visit left and I’m glad that I’ve been able to do pretty much everything I want to do at Winterfest, spread out through all of my visits, which has helped me find the things that I absolutely must do again to finish off the year!

Meals

I had the cheese tortellini from Backlot Cafe. It was good, though I felt like it could have used something like a small side salad to make it a more interesting and complete meal.
